- This land is located in Kamiyamaguchi, Hayama Town.
It is a tranquil area where the rural landscape remains, and is close to rice terraces that have been selected as one of Japan’s 100 best villages.
-

The nearby rice terraces of Kamiyamaguchi, selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Villages - The site is divided into flat land on the south side and sloping land on the north side, which was originally a bamboo forest.
To the south, farmland and the natural mountains stretch out before you, while to the north, beyond the bamboo forest you can see distant views of the town and mountains.
-

When I visited the site, the bamboo forest was still there.
-

Currently, part of the site is vacant.
-

The north side offers a great view of the mountains beyond the bamboo forest.
-

The south side is an empty lot, and the greenery and sky provide a borrowed landscape.
-

The surrounding area is a peaceful rural mountain area.
- I visited the area on a hot August day. The green of the mountains and the blue of the sky enveloped the area, and I imagined what it would be like to live here while taking in the tranquil, comfortable air.
“I want to create a house that makes full use of the natural scenery and allows people to enjoy Satoyama life to the fullest.”
The site was large enough that it was flat, so we decided to plan a single-story house.
-

南側からの建物外観 - I’d like to turn the south side into an edible garden and plant herbs and vegetables. I’d also like to plant fruit trees. I’d like to cook using vegetables harvested from the garden. I’d also like to put out a compost pile to return food waste to the soil, aiming for a circular lifestyle.
I’d like to build a pergola facing the road so that people in the neighborhood can drop in.
-

Guest rooms offer mountain views and an edible garden. - You can also set up a multipurpose guest room where friends and neighbors can dine or stay overnight.
The bamboo grove on the north side could be a play area for children, and in the future it could be possible to add a deck or detached hut.
I want to build a house that blends into the rural mountain scenery.
-

Layout diagram - The building is positioned in the center of the north-south direction, making the most of the bamboo grove on the northern slope and leaving space for an edible garden on the south side, maximizing the width from east to west.
To make the most of the north-south landscape, a wall was built running north to south, with windows placed between them. The wall acts like a lens, narrowing the light and dark, creating an impressive view of the mountains and surrounding scenery.
-

Appearance from the north side - The exterior is divided into separate buildings for the private space, living/dining/kitchen area, and guest room, with the entrance hall and study room forming a volume that connects each of them.By extending the north and south walls of the private space and locating the parking space on the southeast side, the building volume is unified.
The wall finish is plastered on the wall running north to south, while the perpendicular walls are finished with wooden boards in calm colors.
The roof is made of metal and has integrated solar panels.
-

間取り図 - The rooms are arranged so that private spaces such as bedrooms and bathrooms are on the east side, the living/dining/kitchen area is in the center, and the guest room is on the west side.
The living, dining and kitchen areas are loosely connected but each is an independent space, and the floor of the living room has been lowered to create a more independent space like a semi-private room.
-

-

Looking north from the kitchen
-

The living room is a relaxing space that feels like a semi-private room. - The interior walls are made to the same specifications as the exterior walls, softening the boundary between indoors and outdoors.
The floors in the private spaces are finished with wood planks, while the living, dining, kitchen and guest rooms are finished with tiles.
-

- Light and greenery are brought into every room, including the living rooms and hallways, creating a space where you can feel the natural environment.
